Away from the steamy lowlands strawberries, vegetables and wild flowers thrive in the temperate climate of the Cameron Highlands.

Scenery of the Cameron Highlands

Heading north from Kuala Lumpur, you quickly turn off the highway onto a breathtaking set of switchbacks that wind their way up into the lofty mountains where the tea plantations and market gardens give way to forests and waterfalls in a wonderfully unspoiled natural region.

First mapped in 1885 by William Cameron, this hill station retains a quintessentially old English atmosphere, with mock Tudor hotels serving tea in the afternoon and gin and tonics in the evenings.

Activities

Group excursion in the Cameron HighlandsIt’s great for walkers, with many trails leading through lush scenery bright with pretty orchids and flitting birds, and longer walks or drives can reach the remote hill tribe villages of the Orang Asli people.
